In response to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), GBCA is providing employers with guidance on how to ensure workers’ safety on jobsites. These suggested policies and procedures for limiting exposure to coronavirus address issues specific to construction jobsites. Many construction jobsites lack the same facilities of other workplaces, and can contain challenges to hygiene and other suggested protocols.

We here at Kaneka have implemented a travel ban, no attendance to gatherings of more than 15 people, and commencing tomorrow all staff who can work from home should do so.
I'm curious what is happening to construction jobsites across the country? We haven't heard much on our end.

Here in Philadelphia Walker is seeing indoor construction cancelled but outdoor construction is more erratic. A few sites have closed, but most are open. A few public clients are actually authorizing additional work since their facilities are being under-utilized and therefore much easier to close access for repairs.

Yikes, I spoke too soon. The Governor of PA banned all construction and architecture/engineering from proceeding except for virtual efforts from home.

California is allowing construction and "Essential Services" to maintain building infrastructure. We will see how long that will last. Our crews are operating with strict check-in and work protocols that are consistent with the CDC guidelines for personal hygiene and social distancing.

I communicated with Stacey Grund in Seattle and the Governor issued orders there that no construction work or restoration activities would be allowed unless they are directly related to and Essential Service such as health, distribution, utilities or transportation. The result for his companies is that they are laying off 75 to 100 employees. He also indicated that the Families First Coronavirus Act passed by the US Congress does not take effect until April 2nd. ADP Payroll Services has some resources for interpreting this Act and how to track it in your payroll.
Not sure how long California will let us operate, but we can easily predict that our revenue will drop and bidding opportunities will be much less as the crisis deepens. We will have a better idea toward the end of April, but it looks like the economy will be on the skids well into summer.
